Meet Me at the Lake by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to develop new projects, including documentaries, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programs. And now it looks like they’re finally venturing onto the movie side, as the pair have secured the adaptation rights to the best-selling book meet me at the lake.

The book’s author, Carley Fortune, shared the exciting news in an Instagram post. The author said she’s “thrilled to confirm that.” [she is] Collaboration with Netflix and Archewell Productions on the adaptation of meet me at the lake.” For those who don’t know, Archewell Productions is the company that started Harry and Meghan bringing stories to the big screen.

It will be interesting to see how the duo create something different than the documentaries we’ve seen since their Netflix deal. What do we know about the film so far? Read below to find out!

When will Meet Me at the Lake be released?

Unfortunately, only a few details are currently available. We’re not sure when the film will be released on the streaming service. But since the writers’ and actors’ strike has been going on since August 8, 2023, it will probably be a while before we see the film on our screens. Since the production company is just getting the adaptation rights, it’s still in the early stages.

What is Meet Me at the Lake about?

It’s no surprise why Harry and Meghan were both drawn to this story, and it makes perfect sense why the two wanted to bring it from the page to the big screen. The romantic novel centers on Fern Brookbanks and Will Baxter. The story explores childhood trauma, the loss of a parent in a car accident, and mental health issues.

Harry lost his mother, Princess Diana, in a car accident in 1997 and chose to relinquish his royal titles after conflict arose between him and his family over his marriage to Meghan. Harry and Meghan have also opened up about meeting in their 30s and experiencing mental health issues. The book is also set in Toronto, where Meghan was filming suits (Stream on Netflix now!).
