Meghan Markle will never be a ‘Real Housewife’ of Montecito

Are you waiting to watch Meghan Markle flip a table? Well, hold on as the Duchess of Sussex says there’s no way she’ll be part of the Real Housewives franchise. Not even when it comes to her star-studded, California hometown of Montecito.

Not that such a reality show is really out of the question these days — although according to Real Housewives creator Andy Cohen, the duchess is set to star in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. was Briefly discussed when Markle and husband Prince Harry left the UK for the US

“What did you think?” Cohen asked Markle during the finale of her Archetypes podcast. “Because it must have crossed your mind that you moved to the States and everyone’s like, ‘She should join the ‘housewives’ in Beverly Hills.'”

“I guess she’s not joining the Beverly Hills Housewives, folks! She has a full plate! She’s Meghan Markle!” Cohen continued. “You’ve never heard that before?” – she hadn’t – “Good! Well, I never tried to stoke the fire because I figured, folks, that’s not going to happen.

Markle, who appears to have been a huge “Housewives” fan for years, poked back at her guest.

“You really mean this is my audition for ‘Real Housewives of Montecito?’ Is this the moment?” she asked.

“You don’t have to audition,” Cohen replied. “We build the show around you. How about that?”

Then Markle cut off, “There won’t be a reality show!” she proclaimed firmly. “I’ve never heard that before. I’ve never heard of the ‘Beverly Hills’.”

It turns out that Cohen had met Markle twice before recording “Archetypes,” but, to his chagrin, couldn’t remember either meeting. She was on USA Network’s “Suits”; The Housewives franchise, which runs on Bravo, was and still is under the NBCUniversal umbrella. She said she tried to get booked on Cohen’s late-night show Watch What Happens Live but couldn’t.

“This is now the biggest mistake in the show’s 13 years. …,” he said. “Now I can’t even do my pitch to get you on ‘Watch What Happens Live’.”

Of course, the Real Housewives shows are all about the drama. Increased drama. So heightened that at one point the Duchess, her longtime fan, realized she was over it.

“I’ll tell you the truth,” she said. “I stopped watching the ‘Housewives’ when my life had a level of drama of its own that I stopped craving…

“…by other people,” Cohen finished for her.

That said, she still considers the franchise familiar territory since it’s been so ubiquitous for so long, and says all of her friends still watch the odd “Housewives” show.

Cohen had a theory on this.

“We love judging human behavior. And so it’s a way of judging other people’s behavior in a guilt-free way, without feeling bad about it,” he said. “It’s like an excuse to gossip about friends who aren’t really our friends.” Meghan Markle will never be a ‘Real Housewife’ of Montecito
