The sheriff called it “terribly pointless.”

Jesus Salgado attempted suicide Tuesday “prior to law enforcement involvement” and received medical attention, delaying investigators’ ability to speak to him, the sheriff’s office said. Warnke said on Wednesday evening that investigators spoke to him. The interviews ran on Thursday

According to the police report, Jesus Salgado was arrested in 2005 for robbery, burglary and making criminal threats against a man and his family.

On Wednesday, sheriff’s officers unveiled surveillance video showing the family’s movements outside the company — a trucking company — on the day of the kidnapping.
