Mexico’s Leader to Skip Regional Summit After U.S. Snubs Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela

The Biden administration has decided to bar Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from a key regional summit this week, according to senior government officials, prompting the Mexican president to say he would skip the meeting and send his foreign minister instead.

The invitation was not granted to the three autocracies because of human rights concerns and the lack of democratic institutions in those countries, officials said. The Summit of the Americas, scheduled for June 6-10, is expected to focus on migration and economic issues.
