Michelin recalls snow tires that don’t have enough traction

Michelin is recalling more than 542,000 winter tires in the US because they don’t have enough traction to work in all snow conditions

DETROIT– Michelin is recalling more than 542,000 winter tires in the US because they don’t have enough traction to work in all snow conditions.

The recall affects certain Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires, which Michelin says do not meet US safety standards. The tire maker says in documents released by safety agencies on Thursday that tires without adequate traction can increase the risk of an accident.

Dealers replace the tires free of charge for the owners. Preliminary notification letters will be sent to owners from June 12th. You will receive another letter as soon as the spare parts are available.

The company says initial tire tests were performed with incorrect tire pressures. Later tests by Michelin discovered the problem.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has a document listing tire sizes on its website.
