Mikel Arteta shares exciting hopes for Arsenal’s January transfer window

Mikel Arteta has admitted he wants early signings in the January transfer window as Arsenal consider hiring new faces.

The Gunners return to the Premier League today and take on West Ham United while sitting top of the table.

A title race still feels a little ambitious, but Arsenal are five points clear and deserve respect for the first half of the season.

Unfortunately, Gabriel Jesus’ injury means Arsenal are now missing their leading striker.

Eddie Nketiah is expected to step in but with Jesus potentially out until the end of February Arsenal may need another striker.

That wasn’t something Arsenal expected to have to go into January, but Edu and Arteta may need to act.

Another winger is still wanted by Arsenal but it appears the addition of another midfielder is on hold until the summer.

Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to strike fast

Gunners boss Arteta has now outlined his hopes for the January transfer window.

Arteta has told the London Evening Standard he wants all January signings done early.

Arteta noted Arsenal knew they wanted to get their summer business done quickly and they now want to do the same again in January.

However, the Spaniard admitted it’s a very ‘idealistic’ view and knows sometimes it just isn’t possible.

“We knew how important it is to get players early in the summer and we want to do the same in January,” said Arteta. “It’s idealistic. Sometimes it’s not realistic. But of course, if you ask my opinion, we want the players to settle in as quickly as possible,” he added.

Arteta is no doubt aware that the adjustment period is very different in January.

During the summer, players have time to settle in before the start of the season and to understand their new teammates before the season begins.

January signings don’t quite have the same blessings; Sure, they may stay on the bench for a few weeks, but they’re still expected to contribute.

Arsenal would be looking for an immediate signing to bolster their title hopes and finding one in January is very difficult.

A move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk could be an option but whether a striker will join remains to be seen as it is arguably the most difficult position to fill in the short term.
