Michail Antonio has spoken out about the idea of scoring for West Ham United on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel.
Antonio has played almost every position on the football field from right-back to centre-forward and now the Jamaica international has revealed his ambitions to play at the net.
Indeed, the forward says he would love to play in goal one day, explaining that the goalkeeping coach knows how good he is at the net.
Antonio actually gave Harry Kane a cheeky dig, declaring that he would not mimic Kane’s performance as goalkeeper when the England captain shot a soft free-kick over the line in the 2014 Europa League.
Antonio says he’s better in goal than Kane
When asked about his favorite position, the striker replied.
“My favorite position to play is up front now. It used to be on the left, but it’s definitely up front, I love playing up front,” said Antonio.
“Any plans to play elsewhere? Do we see you in the sticks or something?” Antonio was asked.
“I would like to go in goal for the last 10. Our goalkeeping coach knows that if something happens, I’ll go in goal,” Antion replied
“We saw a couple of forwards go in goal, I remember Harry Kane did it,” the host replied.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t do what Harry Kane did,” Antonio concluded.
Might be decent
If you think about it, Mikhail Antonio could actually be a decent goalkeeper.
They say you have to be a bit crazy to be a goalkeeper and Antonio certainly has that side – just look at some of his goal celebrations as examples.
He’s incredibly athletic now and has a brilliant jump, so it should be easy for Antonio to claim crosses.
Maybe one day we’ll actually see the Jamaica international play between the sticks.
In other news, Jurgen Klopp saw himself going mad on the touchline after the 89th minute in Liverpool against Leicester
