Miles Teller and Mikey Day Can’t Flirt in Rooftop Bar Sketch

Miles Teller took up hosting tasks Saturday night live for the season 48 premiere with musical guest Kendrick Lamarand it brought us some wonderfully funny sketches from Teller and co. After the summer hiatus, the series came back with all the punch we know and love live on saturday night, and it also brought us sketches that included plates and Mikey Day bad flirting. Which seems impossible and yet strangely believable.

The sketch depicts Teller and Day as two day traders who visit a rooftop bar to unwind after a day at the office. Teller talks about how he killed it at work and is willing to drink and meet someone at the bar. The problem is that when two women (I Nwodim and Chloe Feinman) standing between them to order drinks, both of them don’t know how to speak to them easily. The sketch is so incredibly awkward in a way that’s shocking given Teller’s fame and charisma, and what particularly fuels the sketch’s hilarity is the knowledge that there are definitely men like these two characters out there. The fact that the two are standing at the bar in vests and buttoned shirts doesn’t help the situation much either.

The “Rooftop Bar” skit is another part of the night that made fun of men and how they treat women. Teller’s “Send Something Normal” sketch looked similarly at how men talk to women, but this time through social media. Both sketches were hilarious to watch as they unfold.

The sketch hits notes that viewers will definitely be familiar with as we’ve all seen these guys in bars; Wear vests, stand together, talk loud, and then have absolutely no game when it comes to women who are around them. Day also tries to flatter the women by spending money he clearly doesn’t have, beginning with them saying they’ll drink the best booze. But when it comes with a $90 premium (which feels like a lot), he backs out.

Nwodim and Fineman offer to pay for their own drinks (so they can leave) and then Day rejects the card. It all seems like a sad glimpse into the lives of these two day traders who have no idea how to be human in the world and are not as clumsy as possible. That being said, someone should probably tell them not to wear their work vests after work if they want to be successful at meeting women.
