Miley Cyrus says “Flowers” is “Fake It Till You Make It” about breakup and was actually the “saddest song”.

“I wrote it very differently,” says Miley. “The chorus originally was, ‘I can buy flowers, write my name in the sand, but I can’t love myself better than you.'”
Miley Cyrus says their megahit “Flowers” wasn’t originally written as a powerful post-breakup anthem.
In a new interview with British Vogue To promote her ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ album, the pop star opened up about her process in writing the chart-topping song.
First of all, she turns down any attempt to get her help in deciphering the lyrics or the viral music video (fan theories abound, it’s all about her ex). Liam Hemsworth).

“I never need to be a master at tricking an audience,” Cyrus said of the various theories. “It will catch fire on its own.”
She then explained how “Flowers” evolved over the course of the writing process and isn’t strictly autobiographical.

“I wrote it very differently,” she said of previous drafts. “The original chorus was, ‘I can buy flowers, write my name in the sand, but I can’t love myself better than you.’ It used to be more like the 1950s. The saddest song. Like, “Sure, I can be my own lover, but you’re so much better.”
But in the end, she decided to ditch the depressing message: “The song’s a little bit like faking it ’til you make it.”
“Which I’m a big fan of,” she added.
Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song in 2010 when they were both teenagers. He proposed marriage two and a half years later, though they were repeatedly separated before moving in together before the fire that destroyed their home in 2018.
They married a month later, but they separated in August 2019. They continued on this tumultuous path until their divorce was finalized in January 2020.
Since then, both have dated and been in relationships with other people.
