Mindbending ‘headless dog’ optical illusion leaves people baffled – but the truth is truly heartbreaking

A PHOTO that appears to show a headless dog has gone viral on social media, but there’s more to the story.

The image of the pet is actually an optical illusion.

“This is what a three-legged dog licking its tail looks like,” said a Twitter user who shared the image called in Portuguese.

“Now you’ve seen everything.”

The shocking optical illusion was created when the owner tried to take a normal photo of the dog, who recently had one of its front legs amputated.

But just as the owner took the snap, the dog turned to lick himself.

This is why the dog’s surgical scar looks like it’s where the animal’s head should be.

But many were still confused by the image.

“I still don’t get it,” said one commenter on Twitter.

“What’s his diet?” someone asked a different question under a Facebook video argue the picture.

“This isn’t even funny or cute,” said another commenter.

Another Twitter user shared a picture of the dog sitting normally.

The small black and tan dog has oversized floppy ears and large brown eyes.

But this pup is far from the only animal that has managed to create an optical illusion.

Only those with perfect vision can spot the little turtle hiding in the animal’s enclosure in this clip.

Iggy the Turtle (@iggythetortoise) has nearly 2,000 TikTok followers.

But he sought some privacy while this video was being shot.

The turtle hides in one of its small caves.

In this photo, too, a cat has done an excellent job of hiding from its human.

If the viewer looks closely, they should be able to spot the kitten hiding in a laundry basket under the owner’s desk.

Only 20/20 viewers can spot a penguin or two in this image.

There are more than 100 flightless birds in the picture, so it may take a while.
