Morgan State Among 6 Black Colleges Getting Cybersecurity Centers – CBS Baltimore

NEW ORLEANS (AP / WJZ) – Morgan State University is one of six black universities in history that will host IBM’s first cybersecurity centers aimed at training underrepresented communities, according to the company.

The shortlist includes Louisiana’s Xavier University, that state’s Southern University System, North Carolina A&T, South Carolina State, Clark Atlanta, and Morgan State universities — all in Southern states. , according to a news release on Tuesday.

Dr. Ray L. Belton, president of Baton Rouge-based Southern University System, said: “Technology-related services are always in demand and cybersecurity is paramount.

Nikunja Swain, president and professor of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at South Carolina State, in Orangeburg, said the centers will give students, staff and faculty access to modern technology, resources and skill development.

It will further enhance our ongoing operations across several key areas, including cybersecurity, data science analytics, cloud computing, IOT, blockchain, design thinking, power quantum computing and artificial intelligence,” he said.

IBM says it plans more than 20 such centers at historic Black colleges and universities across the country.

The company says each school will receive customized courses and access to the company’s learning programs. They will also be able to experience simulated but real cyber attacks through the IBM Security Command Center.

The company says it will also offer faculty and students free access to multiple IBM Cloud SaaS environments.

Xavier in New Orleans, North Carolina A&T in Greensboro and Morgan State University in Baltimore.
