Child hospitalized after mountain lion attack in San Mateo Co

SAN MATEO COUNTY, California — A child was taken to a hospital Tuesday night after being attacked by a mountain lion in an unincorporated area of ​​San Mateo County in northern California, authorities said.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the reported attack around 6:50 p.m. in the 1000 block of Tunitas Creek Road. The area is south of Half Moon Bay.

Authorities say the child was conscious when they were taken to hospital but did not provide details on the child’s condition.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating the reported attack.

The sheriff’s office released the following statement in response to this incident:

“Our coastal community has endured so much in the last few weeks. Our entire agency is saddened by this news and sends the child many heartfelt wishes for a speedy and full recovery. Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”
