The tip, posted to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, uses one of the cheapest household products to remove stubborn stains.

Advice flooded in when one user posted a picture of poorly marked cookware and begged, “How do I get these stains off my casserole dish?”

“I tried everything I could think of. I ran out of ideas.”

Luckily, commenters have revealed their special secret – dishwasher tabs.

One wrote: “Pour some dishwasher tabs over boiling water and leave overnight, then scrub with Brillo Pad.”

Another suggested: “Soap washing powder (non-organic is fine) with boiling water. Leave on for an hour. Magic!”

A third recommended rubbing a wet dishwasher tablet directly onto the stains instead.

It’s perhaps not surprising that the tablets work so well considering they were designed to do a similar job in a dishwasher.

They have an abrasive surface that can blast through stubborn stains without scratching the dishes underneath.

A bag of 30 tablets can be purchased from Asda for just £1.34, which is around 4.5p per tablet.

The advice then fell silent as a heated debate broke out over whether to soak a dish immediately after use, with some pointing out that the rapid change in temperature can cause cracking.

Mrs. Hinch fans also recently raved about an Aldi detergent that moves stubborn stains on clothes.

It comes after a savvy shopper tested whether the same cleaning effect could be achieved by cutting their dishwasher tabs in half, allowing them to go twice as far.

Meanwhile, a cleaning pro shared his tips on keeping your oven sparkling and getting rid of food stains.
