Mum-of-three died alone after flying to Turkey for surgery

A FAMILY was devastated after a mother of three tragically died following £2,000 gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey.
Leanne Michelle Leary, 38, from Oldham, traveled to Istanbul for the procedure, which if successful would have 80% of her stomach removed.
The mum had sent an excited snap from the hospital to her family’s WhatsApp chat – but loved ones were worried when they lost contact with Leanne for several hours.
Concerned family members eventually learned that Leanne had suffered a heart attack, but that her condition was stabilizing.
But before her loved ones could fly to the Turkish capital, Leanne suffered a second and fatal heart attack.
The mother-of-three decided to have the procedure after struggling with weight loss from giving birth to her teens.
Leanne’s family wondered how her condition was deteriorating so quickly – the Rochdale Coroner’s Court confirmed there would be an inquest into her death in due course.
Ex-husband Steven Leary said Leanne flew to Turkey alone on June 30.
He said she underwent preliminary tests the following day before going under the knife later that afternoon.
“The procedure involved a gastric sleeve designed to remove 80 percent of the stomach.” he told the Manchester Evening News.
“The whole package cost £2,000.
“I believe the same procedure if you went to the UK privately cost around £12,000.”
Meanwhile, Steven says the ordeal has devastated the family.
“Leanne was very bubbly and the life and soul of the party.”
“She was very kind and generous and always willing to help other people even when she needed it herself.
“My son is very angry.
“It was very unexpected and you don’t expect something like this to happen when you’re paying thousands of pounds for a medical procedure.”
“Your daughters are heartbroken.”

A friend of Leanne’s started one GoFundMe page in her memory.
