Mums are only just realising what the plastic on the side of formula boxes are really for and it’s blowing their minds

MOTHERS were stunned after finding out what the plastic on the side of formula tubs is.

Gillian Mitchell, who is becoming a first-time mom, took to TikTok to share the real reason behind it, after discovering the tiny detail as she weaned her child off the formula.

When the mother discovered the plastic, she quickly realized that it wasn’t just packaging, but had a very clever function.

Gillian realized that the plastic was actually there to level the top of the milk feeding spoon when making a bottle.

Though it may have been too late for Gillian to try the hack on her firstborn, she decided to share the revelation with other moms.

“When you pick up your first milk and realize that little piece of plastic makes the powder level,” she wrote.

“I know what I have to do the second time!”

And she wasn’t the only mom who was a little late in realizing the purpose of plastic.

“I was on my third baby before I realized this,” one person wrote.

To which Gillian replied: “I don’t feel so bad then lol.”

“I used to smooth it out on top with a knife until I realized it,” commented another.

A third wrote: I had no idea.”

“No way. 4 kids over 10 just had their last baby and are now 18 months old and still using knives,” commented a fourth.

Someone else claimed, “I use the flat edge of a knife.”

Nor was it the only part of the formula box that wasn’t as self-explanatory as manufacturers might have hoped.

“For ages I didn’t realize that the inside of the lid holds the scoop so you don’t have to fish it out of the powder every time,” wrote another mom.

But others insisted they’d known about the powder hacks for ages.

“If people read the instructions mine said there – I was shocked as hell giving the formula and reading every bit,” one wrote.

And another added: “Are you really just finding out now?”
