Musikfest 2022: Scorching heat on the lineup; Boyz II Men opens preview night

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — There was no lack of sun and heat at the music festival on Thursday.

“It’s too hot,” said Niccolo Gonzalez of Bethlehem. “I’m coming home from work and I’m wearing pants, I need to change them.”

“I think I’m looking forward to seeing Boyz II Men,” said Matt Wells of Bethlehem. “It doesn’t matter what the weather is like, but at the same time I wish it wasn’t the hottest day of the music festival.”

In its 39th year, the music festival opened its Thursday preview night with Boys II Men, just another reason attendees said they were braving the scorching temperatures.

“It’s hot, but I wouldn’t miss the premiere on day one,” said Bethlehem’s Jodie Johnson. “The music, the food, the excitement of the people out and about after being locked in with COVID for so long.”

“I think it’s very relaxing and when people complain, I just tell them to think about it when the weather is really cold,” said Raphael Camber of Bethlehem.

And for the next week and a half of the event, organizers are warning attendees to pay attention to what your body is telling you, take regular shade breaks, and stay hydrated naturally.

“It’s really important to drink, especially when it’s this hot, not just when you’re thirsty, but to drink constantly,” said Shannon Keith, ArtsQuest’s communications director. “If you’re going to indulge in some of those wonderful adult beverages when you’re old enough, then of course take turns. Don’t just stick with the alcohol, add some water.”

The festival also has first aid tents and mist fans throughout the venue.
