My daughter, 10, spent £2,500 playing Roblox and my bank refused to help – here’s how I got my money back

A mum claims the bank wouldn’t help her after her 10-year-old daughter spent £2,500 playing Roblox – this is how she got the money back.
Georgina Munday, 44, has told of her horror to find the lump sum cash had been withdrawn from her account.
The Welsh mum found almost £3,000 worth of £20 transactions were paid out to the online game.
Her daughter Primrose had managed to change the iPad password, meaning she had allowed payments through the app without anyone noticing.
The popular game allows users to buy clothes and accessories for their avatar, as well as some additional pay-to-play games.
Nurse Georgina immediately contacted Tesco Bank and explained the situation – but was told they could not refund her.
She told BBC Radio Four’s You and Yours: “We had just seen hundreds of transactions, these payment confirmations, and then the panic set in – oh my god, whose card is that on?”
“It was a really stressful time. I’m not working at the moment, I’m taking care of my daughter.”
“I just thought I’d have to pay it off in installments over the next few years.
“I called Tesco Bank and they said there was nothing they could do because it was my daughter.”
In her desperate attempt to get her money back, Georgina felt she had no choice but to go to the consumer radio show and ask for help.
The day after she appeared, Tesco Bank said it would refund the full amount, causing Georgina to cry in “relief”.
She is now trying to make other parents aware of how easy it is for children to learn parental controls or passwords.
She added: “Kids these days are a step ahead of parents. We found this Roblox game quite innocent, it looks very simple.”
“There’s a whole world out there on this Roblox that we didn’t know about.”
Tesco Bank said: “We have re-examined this case and have now agreed with Ms Munday that we will refund her in full.”
“We apologize to Ms Munday that this was not arranged for her when she first contacted us and as a gesture of goodwill have also arranged an additional payment to her.”
Roblox has a security section on its website that explains that there is a process for refund requests when something may have been purchased without authorization.
It states, “Roblox has strict policies for processing refund requests when unauthorized payments may have been made from an individual’s account.”
“This process is detailed in our help center.

“Parents also have access to a range of parental controls that allow them to manage how much their children can spend and set up spending notifications to increase transparency about their children’s spending on Roblox.”
