Nancy Pelosi’s husband charged with DUI in Napa County

Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), was charged Thursday with misdemeanor driving under the influence and causing injuries, the Napa County District Attorney said in a news release.

The charges stem from a two-car collision on State Route 29 in Yountville on May 28.

Pelosi, 82, was driving a 2021 Porsche and collided with a 2014 Jeep driven by a 48-year-old, the California Highway Patrol said last month.

He was arrested and given a blood test, which revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.082%, prosecutors said.

“Under California law, these charges may be filed as misdemeanors or felonies,” the office said. “Based on the extent of the injuries sustained by the victim, the District Attorney has filed misdemeanor charges.

“This decision is consistent with the way our office is handling these cases involving similar violations,” the office said. “[This] is the amount of information our office will make available to the public regarding Mr. Pelosi’s arrest outside of a criminal courtroom or in documents filed with the court.”

If convicted, Pelosi faces up to five years probation, five days in prison, and fines and fees. An “anti-ignition device,” which tests a driver’s blood alcohol level before a vehicle’s engine is started, could also be installed in Pelosi’s vehicle. He may also be ordered to complete an alcohol education course.

Pelosi is scheduled to be indicted in Napa County Superior Court on August 3.

A spokesman for Nancy Pelosi told the Associated Press last month, “The spokeswoman will not comment on this private matter that transpired while she was on the East Coast.”

The couple has been married since 1963.
