NASA and Hideo Kojima have teamed up on a project, and it’s not the partnership itself that’s unusual. Finally, the mascot of Kojima Productions is a character named Ludens, who wears an outdoor vehicle spacesuit and is set to explore digital space as an astronaut. No, it’s the fact that they collaborated on a watch. It’s not even a smartwatch – it’s an actual watch called Space Ludens, based on the game developer’s mascot.
The watch was designed and is sold by creative studio and watchmaker Anicorn, who previously worked with NASA on other watches and merch. As IGN Notes, it is based on the visual style of Ludens’ spacesuit with its grey/silver color scheme and gold screws and accents. The NASA logo graces the dial, along with the words “Extra-Vehicular Creative Activity Suit.” Below that, the Kojima Productions logo is stamped onto the transparent case, which reveals the watch’s gears.
While a watch is most likely not the first thing that springs to mind when you hear Kojima has teamed up with NASA, it looks pretty cool and could appeal to fans of both parties. The Space Ludens watch will be released in limited numbers on September 27th. Only 600 will be available for purchase, 100 of which will come with a skull mask based on the one prominent in the Kojima Productions logo. Anicorn has yet to reveal how much it will cost, but its previous NASA watches don’t come cheap and will set you back over $1,000.
