Eddy Curry led the Chicago Bulls in scoring averages in 2004-05 before being hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat. The team then offered him a large check to take a test to determine if he had a congenital heart defect, but he declined over privacy concerns.
He said he would be offered $400,000 a year for 50 years if he took the test.
“Yeah, but the thing was, the crazy thing was, my agent did the math. He’s a super, he was a lawyer before all that, Leon Rose.”
He continued, “He was a crazy super-lawyer before. But how did they calculate it? The cops owed me, I don’t know what it was next year. I had an option this year to get something like $5.7 or ($8 million) or whatever. Whatever it was, they basically wanted to raise that money and pay the interest on that money. That’s all they really did… I felt like it wasn’t really honest of them to do that.
Should he have taken the test?
