‘New Amsterdam’ Season 5: Sandra Mae Frank Promoted to Series Regular

New AmsterdamThe newest Surgeon is sure to return for the fifth and final season: The NBC medical drama spurred Sandra Mae Frank, who plays Doctor Elizabeth Wilder, to series regular for the show’s swan song, TVLine learned exclusively.

Frank joins the team in the Season 4 premiere as a deaf surgeon, whom Max initially interviews to fill Helen’s position before recommending her to be the hospital’s medical director. She turned down the gig, but eventually joined the staff as Dean of Oncology. Frank has appeared in 12 episodes so far this season and won the TVLine Performer of the Week Award for Episode 13 (“The Family”), which explores the relationship between Dr. Wilder and his brother. Miss.

New AmsterdamThe final season of Season 4 airs tonight (NBC, 10/9c) and features a weather crunch as a storm approaches New York ahead of Max and Helen’s wedding.

“Obviously no one planning for this storm to strike. It came for the Carolinas and then changed course quite abruptly,” executive producer David Schulner told TVLine. “So that’s really where everyone finds themselves, has to worry about something that, literally and figuratively, wasn’t on their radar hours earlier.”

Meanwhile, Helen is on a plane traveling from London to New York for the wedding for most of the episode. “Because Helen was in the mid-Atlantic when the storm changed course, there was also some danger in the air,” Schulner warned. (Get more final news here.)
