New rental ‘property’ may be London’s cheapest at £290 a month – but there’s a catch

A VAN is available to live in — for £290 a month.
The run-down car had a cramped kitchen and a single bed but no toilet or shower.
The owner says tenants – who pay a £290 deposit – can use the facilities at Tesco or the nearby gym, for an extra £30 a month.
It was parked next to a row of flats in Streatham, South London.
The advertisement states: “For rent Campervan to live in. Not for driving. You are in my parking lot.
Permissive agent Pablo Joseph added: “You can use the camping toilet with an emergency bag and empty the trash in the bin outside.”
Living in a taxed vehicle with the MOT is legal in the UK.
But the offer has caused ridicule online.
Polly Neate, Shelter’s chief executive, said: “Sadly, some crafty homeowners are trying to cash in on the housing emergency because they know people are desperate.”
