Laura Barnes died suddenly after suffering a blood clot after giving birth to her baby Dexter via Caesarean section.

Just weeks later, her family suffered another tragedy after Dexter died that night.

Laura’s devastated mother Jennifer said she only ever wanted to be a mother.

Jennifer added that Laura and Dexter are at least together now as they were denied the chance to meet while they were still alive.

Dexter was born at 32 weeks and spent around six weeks in the neonatal unit before being discharged alongside his father, Shane Khan.

An inquest into his death today revealed Dexter was examined by a nurse – who found he was in good health.

Shane said he let his baby sleep in his bed next to his 14-month-old brother and left him sleepy at the foot of the bed.

LancsLive Coroner Richard Taylor said Shane woke up at 5.30am and noticed his baby wasn’t moving as he normally would.

That’s when he noticed that Dexter’s arms were limp and his eyes were discolored.

The newborn was taken to hospital but tragically pronounced dead.

One from the pathologist Dr. William Simmons autopsy could not find a cause of death and found no evidence of previous illnesses or injuries that could have contributed.

Mr Taylor said: “Under the circumstances, it cannot be entirely ruled out that accidental air obstructions contributed to Dexter’s death. Therefore, the cause of death remains unclear.”

Mr Taylor concluded: “Dexter Khan-Barnes died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on July 30, 2022, having been found lifeless at home in the bed he shared with his brother.”
