Newbury Park’s Brady Smigiel talks about 2023 season expectations

A new season of Friday Night Live begins with Eric Sondheimer of The Times and Los Angeles area sports broadcaster Randy Rosenbloom chatting with Newbury Park quarterback Brady Smigiel about his highly anticipated second season.
Smigiel has received more than 20 college scholarship offers after rushing for nearly 3,500 yards and 46 touchdowns as a freshman for the Panthers.
“My biggest goal this year was just to get faster and get stronger,” Smigiel said of his priorities for 2023. “I’m trying to protect myself a little more. I can avoid guys and gain some weight to protect my body.”
Smigiel is looking to get smarter with football after throwing 11 interceptions last year. He is confident that he can reduce errors and work more efficiently.
“Last year I was very greedy. I had a really good receiving corps last year so we did a lot of deep throws,” said Smigiel. “Just being able to get my third or fourth advance or throw the ball away is a goal I’ve been working towards this year.”
Alongside Smigiel, Sondheimer and Rosenbloom discuss Friday’s showdown between Mater Dei and Corona Centennial.
