Newcastle must now pay £135,000-a-week to sign Chelsea’s World Cup star

Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech risks price-out against AC Milan transfer via January market Newcastle United are also interested in signing Morocco’s World Cup star.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who reports that the San Siro side aren’t ready to meet the sizeable salary Ziyech has been asking for. AC Milan have never given up their interest in bringing the midfielder to Serie A. But the finances for such a change are proving to be problematic.

Therefore, AC Milan are yet to hold new talks with Ziyech’s agent since meeting the Chelsea star’s representative in October. In those discussions, the Rossoneri bosses learned the 29-year-old wants €7-8m a year (£118k-135k a week). But that is too expensive for AC Milan in January.

Chelsea outcast Ziyech risks being cashed out of a move to AC Milan in January

It’s also more than Ziyech makes at Stamford Bridge after agreeing to a €6million-a-year (£101,000-a-week) deal when he joined them. Chelsea brought Ziyech to the Premier League from Ajax for £33.5million in 2020. However, his time in west London was not as fruitful as either would have it.

Now Ziyech is risking selling himself out of a move to AC Milan as his wage demands make a move from Chelsea extremely complicated. The Rossoneri could be more willing to agree on a higher wage instead in the summer. But his club form can’t justify a raise.

Newcastle are also interested in a deal for Morocco’s World Cup star

Ziyech has played just 270 minutes for Chelsea in all competitions this season and is yet to score or assist. The 50-cap Moroccan maestro also has just 14 goals and 10 assists in 92 games for the Blues. Six of his goals have come in 51 Premier League games so far.

Nonetheless, Newcastle are also keen to approve Ziyech’s transfer from Chelsea in the upcoming January window. Gianluca Di Marzio has told Soccer News that the Magpies will approach the Blues to discuss a move. But he could still return to Ajax in the new year.

Ziyech’s heart still beats for the Eredivisie club and he could consider a return to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Further interest could come after a creative but sometimes frustrating time at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He scored one goal and scored one goal en route to the semifinals.

Morocco boss Walid Regragui also praised Ziyech. He said of quotes from the Daily Mail: “He’s amazing. A lot of people say he’s a tough guy to deal with, but what I see is that if you give him love and trust, he’ll die for you.”
