It can be said that birthdays in a professional footballer’s family are a little different than normal.
When your dad makes millions a year, it’s no surprise to see jewelry, vacations, and cars as gifts. However, two sons of Atletico Mineiro forward Givanildo Vieira de Sousa, nicknamed the Hulk for his impressive physique, wanted something different this year: nothing physical; just a memory
And the former Brazil international, 36, released something spectacular: a special video message from three of the greatest footballers to ever play the game: Neymar, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“My children Ian and Tiago had their baby on 7/20. Birthday, Ian 14 and Tiago 12 years old,” the Brazilian wrote on his Instagram. “And they didn’t ask me for anything material as a gift, they wanted something unusual and surprising. Being passionate about football, there’s nothing better than to be congratulated by the best in the world… Gratitude to the great idols and friends.”
Hulk started his career in Brazil before moving to Japan but made his mark in Portugal with Porto in 2008 before joining Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2012 for €60m. 2016 was followed by another big transfer to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG, where he was reportedly earning over €400,000 a week, but left the club in 2021 to return to Brazil with Atletico Mineiro.
Scoring 11 goals in 49 appearances for his national team, Hulk could have won over fellow countryman Neymar fairly easily, but it’s less clear how he managed to make Argentina international Messi and Portugal’s Ronaldo lose time in their busy schedules .
Maybe the fear of a ‘Hulk Smash’ was enough? But dad will have a hard time topping that for his other two kids!
