NHS boss in charge of nursing at hospital when Lucy Letby went on killing spree finally suspended

An NHS boss who was responsible for nursing at the hospital when Lucy Letby murdered seven babies was eventually suspended from her current job.
This comes after hospital leaders were accused of ignoring concerns about Letby from their fellow doctors, who feared she was a murderess.
Alison Kelly is earning around £100,000 a year as director of care at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust in Salford after leaving the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Letby killed four Babies after Kelly – suspended pending further investigation – was made aware of concerns about her person.
Seven senior consultants complained about Letby after a spike in deaths while working in the neonatal unit.
But senior managers ignored her claims and asked her to apologize to her.
Yesterday, experts said the NHS’s whistleblowing system needs an overhaul.
dr Naru Narayanan, president of the Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association, said: “All too often, whistleblowers are treated like the problem by bad employers and are subject to threats and bullying to keep them silent.”
The Ministry of Health is planning an independent investigation – but the families of the victims are unhappy that people are not being forced to testify.
