WASHINGTON – Norma Hunt, the second wife of Lamar Hunt, the late Kansas City Chiefs founder and the only woman to attend every Super Bowl, has died. She was 85.
The Hunt family, who still own the franchise, announced the matriarchal departure of the Chiefs in a statement made by the group Sunday night. No cause of death has been given.
Norma Hunt was one of the few people to have attended every Super Bowl when she featured in the Captains’ 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on February 12 in Glendale, Arizona.
Lamar Hunt, one of the founders of the AFL and the force behind the 1970 merger with the NFL, died in 2006.
Norma Hunt has two sons, Clark and Daniel, and is closely linked to the Chiefs franchise through her philanthropic work. Clark Hunt became president of the franchise after his father’s death and has become a leading voice in NFL ownership.
The Hunt family said: “She has always been devoted to her family and passionate about her family sports teams. “She’s been by our father Lamar’s side every step of the way – from the merger of the AFL and NFL to the founding of the Professional Football League, Tennis World Championships, North American Soccer League and investment. their founders into the Chicago Bulls.
“She was the only person we knew who could compete with his love of sports. The two of them have found such joy together, whether at home or in stadium stands around the world.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has known Norma Hunt for nearly four decades, called her a “significant presence in the NFL.”
“Norma’s sense of family extends to the Chiefs’ organization, which she greatly admires,” Goodell said. “Norma is one of the biggest fans of the Chiefs and the NFL, and understands and enjoys every aspect of the game. She loves being around the team and calls the players ‘real-life superheroes’. Norma has attended every Super Bowl ever, including the Captain’s two recent victories, and is the only woman to do so.
