Northern Ukraine Comes Under Burst of Russian Attacks Far From Front Lines

Kyiv, Ukraine — Rockets and missiles rained down on northern Ukraine on Thursday morning, marking the first time in weeks that the Kyiv region has been hit, far from fighting in the east and south of the country.

A Kalibr cruise missile hit a military base in the Vyshgorod area north of Kyiv early Thursday morning, military officials said. At least 20 rockets were fired from Belarus into northern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. Nine hit the Chernihiv region while air defense systems knocked out others. Shells also hit the Kharkiv and Mykolayiv regions in north-eastern and southern Ukraine overnight.
