Nyck de Vries to replace unwell Alex Albon at Italian Grand Prix

Nyck de Vries will replace Alex Albon at Williams at the Italian Grand Prix after the Thai driver contracted appendicitis.

The Dutchman, who won Formula 2 in 2019 and Formula E in 2021, is in the race to become Alex Albon’s team-mate next year as Nicholas Latifi’s future remains uncertain.

He now has a unique opportunity to underscore his credentials for the role in his F1 racing debut.

De Vries will take part in the third practice session on Saturday, followed by qualifying in the afternoon

Williams is believed to be weighing up De Vries and American Formula Two driver Logan Sargeant for the 2023 seat.

De Vries has had plenty of F1 experience this year, attending first practice for Aston Martin at Monza on Friday, after doing the same for Williams at the Spanish Grand Prix and for Mercedes at the French Grand Prix.
