O2 and Sky down – updates: Mobile networks suffer service issues

There was apparently a serious failure at Sky Mobile and O2. Thousands of users stated that their mobile internet had apparently failed.

On Tuesday afternoon, the online failure monitor Downdetector registered thousands of user reports about problems with Sky and O2 services.

The problem apparently began shortly after 2 p.m. when both mobile networks failed at the same time.

Customers took to Twitter and other social media platforms to complain about the issues.

The Sky Help team said on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that they were investigating the problem.

“We are aware that some Sky Mobile customers are currently experiencing issues making and receiving calls. “We are investigating the issue and apologize for any inconvenience,” it said.

A Virgin Mobile O2 spokesman said: “We are aware of the issue affecting Sky Mobile customers. Whilst using the O2 network this issue only affects Sky Mobile services and our network is working as usual.”

When did the outage start?

According to Downdetector, the problems for O2 and Sky Mobile customers began just after 2 p.m., with both mobile networks going down at the same time.

The Sky Help team said on Twitter it was investigating the outage reports, with user complaints centered on London, Manchester and Glasgow.

Most reports of problems for O2 are also concentrated in London, while outages appear to be widespread in Falmouth as well.
