Officer shoots hit-and-run suspect during gun battle outside King of Prussia Mall, officials say

UPPER MERION TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Upper Merion Township Police are investigating a shooting outside the King of Prussia Mall involving an officer.

It happened Sunday afternoon in the parking lot in front of the Seasons 52 grill.

According to the police, the incident began with a hit-and-run around 2:30 p.m. in the shopping center area.

A bicycle cop responded to the scene, and police said the suspect fled the parking lot in a red Nissan Juke.

“The vehicle then attempted to exit the Mall property via the Seasons 52 exit, which leads to North Gulph Road. The vehicle got stuck in traffic and a marked squad car pulled up behind it. Upon seeing the officer, the suspect made a right turn and jumped onto the curb and then proceeds to enter the 52nd Squadron parking lot where he descends a 4 foot high stone wall where his vehicle was obstructed.” police said in a press release.

The officer in the squad car chased the fleeing suspect, who authorities said was armed with a 9mm handgun.

At some point during the chase, both the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire. More than 20 spent cartridge cases were found at the scene.

The suspect sustained at least two gunshot wounds to the leg and was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The officer was not injured.
