Olivia Rodrigo addresses rumors of a feud with Taylor Swift

Olivia Rodrigo has addressed the subject of her song “Vampire,” which is rumored to be about Taylor Swift.

The song is the lead single from the singer’s forthcoming album OffalHe refers to a “blood sucker, fame damn, making me bleed dry like a goddamn vampire!” which has led to much speculation among fans as to who it might be.

Fans are convinced Swift is the subject of the song, with many sharing their theories online. Some fans have claimed the pair fell out over a song credit dispute on Rodrigo’s hit “Deja Vu,” in which Rodrigo interpolated (i.e., re-recorded a tune rather than sampled) Swift’s “Cruel Summer.” Rodrigo eventually gave Swift a co-writing credit and royalties on the track.

The plot apparently intensified when fans noticed that Rodrigo didn’t attend any of Swift’s shows during her Eras tour. This surprised fans, as Rodrigo has long been vocal about being a dedicated Swiftie (a Taylor Swift fan) and has previously said she’s always “looked up to” the “Blank Space” hitmaker.

Other fans noted that it once appeared the two had a budding friendship, sometimes sharing supportive Instagram posts about each other’s work. But now fans are claiming that the vibe is gone.

However, when asked about the subject of the song in a new interview with The guardRodrigo said she was “surprised” that fans had come to this conclusion.

When initially asked if Swift was the subject of “Vampires,” Rodrigo didn’t deny that was the case, replying, “How do I respond to that?”

“I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that in my career and probably never will.”

“I think it’s better not to pigeonhole a song that’s about that one thing,” she said. “I was very surprised when people thought that.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Rodrigo has addressed the speculation surrounding the song’s subject. In July, she jokingly posted a video of herself with TikTok comedian Jake Shane sipping a bright blood-colored drink from a fake “Type A” hospital blood bag.

In the caption, she sarcastically wrote, “For anyone who asks… ‘Vampire’ is about @Jake Shane.”

Olivia Rodrigo’s second album Offal will be released on September 8th.
