PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — On the corner of Spruce and 63 Streets in Philadelphia’s Cobbs Creek neighborhood, Abdul Jabar serves up perhaps some of the freshest fruit you can find.
He started his business, Soul Glo Healthy Lifestyle, about three years ago.
People come from all over just to try his amazing watermelon.
“You won’t find pitted watermelons… as big and sweet as mine,” says Jabar.
Providing the community with healthy food is very important to Abdul and his customers are grateful for the constant supply.
“I cook a lot with fresh fruit and veg, so that’s why I come here,” says Qussie Murphy, a loyal customer.
Abdul says he’s been through a lot of ups and downs over the years. He lost one of his main production trucks to accidents on the parkway and another truck of his was totaled.
He never let that get him down. He just reassesses and bounces back the only way he knows how.
There isn’t a person walking by the stands that Abdul doesn’t know by name or say hello to. In his book, customer service comes first.
“I have a very good customer base and since we have a great relationship, they come out in the rain or I go to their car, I’ll accommodate them as much as I can,” says Jabar.
His main source of communication is his Instagram page Soul_Glo__Healthy_Lifestyle. There, customers can get an idea of what Abdul might be selling that day.
Abdul will travel far and wide to source the best products for his customers, even if it means driving hundreds of miles.
A very popular item on his list is his homemade sea moss drinks. He loves chatting with his customers about the various benefits of the drinks.
“Support, entertain and I guarantee you’ll take home something of value,” says Randy Ndubuaku, a regular customer.
Soul Glo Healthy Lifestyle is open daily from 11am to 7pm.
