One-year-old child dead and three others hospitalised after daycare incident

A one-year-old child reportedly died and three other teenagers were hospitalized after an incident at a New York daycare center.
A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition, while another 2-year-old boy and an 8-month-old girl are both in stable condition.
The 1-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday’s incident at the Divino Nino day care center in the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood of the Bronx, the New York Police Department said.
Facility staff found the infants unresponsive and called 911. When EMS first responders arrived, they found two infants in cardiac arrest and called the FDNY for assistance, CBS News reported.
The children reportedly ate something to eat before taking a nap around 1 p.m. When staff woke them up at 2:30 p.m., they found them unresponsive. WABC reported.
The FDNY investigated whether there was a carbon monoxide leak and concluded it was not the cause.
According to NBC 4 New York, an investigation is focusing on whether drugs played a role in the death.
The facility is licensed to care for up to eight children between the ages of six weeks and twelve years.
A witness said CBS New York that they heard staff screaming and saw “unresponsive” toddlers on a mat in the daycare.
She says a worker shouted “They’re dying, they’re dying” as an employee carried a child outside.

Police sources told WABC that the daycare owner is cooperating fully with police and assisting with the investigation.
