Oscar winner Sean Penn attends Jan. 6 hearing on Capitol Hill

Oscar winner Sean Penn Thursday attended the fifth day of the Jan. 6 committee hearings on Capitol Hill.

The outspoken Oscar winner “Milk” and “Mystic River” sat with officers defending the US Capitol during the January 6, 2021 attack by supporters of former President Trump to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The House Special Committee has entered its second week of hearings as it unveils the results of its year-long probe into the riot.

Penn, 61, was seated alongside former Washington Metropolitan Police Department officer Daniel Hodges and former DC Police officer and CNN contributor Michael Fanone.

“I’m just here to just observe [as a] another citizen,” he told reporters, according to CNN.

“I think we all saw what happened on January 6th and now let’s see if justice comes on the other side,” he added, noting that he’s been following the hearings.

The hearings have been likened to the Watergate scandal, so it should be noted that Penn starred in the new Starz series Gaslit as former President Nixon’s attorney general, John Mitchell.

Earlier this week, Penn was among the celebrities on Ukraine’s Defense Ministry’s A-list thanks in a tweet for visiting the war-torn nation five months after the Russian invasion. Penn even lobbied for Ukrainian President and former actor Volodymyr Zelenskyy to appear at this year’s Academy Awards to draw more attention to Russia’s assault on the nation.

“[Ukraine] is grateful to the Hollywood stars who visited us despite the danger. @Sean Penn, @lievwriterAngelina Jolie, @Ben Stiller You are more than just an inspiration to all of us. Millions around the world have heard from you the truth about human struggle [Ukrainian] Folks,” the tweet said.
