Outlook junk filter not working: What we know about the spam issue.

If your inbox is a mess this Monday, you’re not alone. Microsoft Outlook users have been complaining online about an apparent problem with their junk filter, meaning they have been inundated with spam, which is usually redirected.

Twitter user @bdsams(Opens in a new tab) for example, posted what looked like his inbox and it was chock full of obvious stuff. We’re talking about email addresses made up of random numbers, fake security messages, and blatant phishing attempts.

It’s unclear what’s causing the problem or when it might be fixed. Mashable has reached out to Microsoft for clarification and more details, but hasn’t received an immediate response. We will update the story with comments from the company or as needed.

The Verge’s Tom Warren noticed that his Outlook inbox(Opens in a new tab) contained 20 spam messages this morning and that they kept breaking through the rest of the morning. Check out Twitter and you can see that Warren is far from alone in this matter

wrote the British author and historian Hallie Rubenhold Twitter(Opens in a new tab)“I’m being bombed. Somebody please make it stop!”

A tidy inbox can be vital for people, especially when it comes to their work life. Hopefully there will be more details and some sort of fix to the apparent problem soon.
