Overwatch 2 dev wants to add more of D.Va’s MEKA Squad teammates

Overwatch 2 fans aren’t the only ones hoping more MEKA Squad members will join in the fun. A Blizzard developer has said that he too would like to see D.Va’s squadmates.

D.Va is one of the most intriguing characters in Overwatch, serving as an armed mech suit pilot and professional gamer.

Notably, she is also a member of South Korea’s Mobile Exo-Force of the Korean Army (MEKA), a militarized force originally formed to thwart a robot insurgency.

While there are about half a dozen other MEKA teammates in Overwatch canon, D.Va remains the only playable character of the group. Series faithful hope that will change with the upcoming sequel.

Overwatch 2 developers also want more playable MEKA heroes

The Overwatch 2 crew recently hosted an AMA on Reddit, where team members answered dozens of questions from curious fans. One of those questions dealt with the potential for other MEKA characters to join the fun.

Reddit user Simp4Dmon asked if Blizzard had “future plans” to add MEKA heroes like D.mon as playable heroes. Blizz_JNoh responded shortly after, telling the fan that there were “no official plans at the moment.”

However, the developer said he would “love to” bring more people from MEKA Squad to Overwatch 2.

At least for now, it’s clear that D.Va will remain the sole MEKA team member in the Overwatch roster. However, it doesn’t seem like all hope is lost. Perhaps other Blizzard developers would like to see other mech pilots enter combat in a similar way.

Currently, the Overwatch community is patiently awaiting the release of the sequel’s second beta, which goes live on June 28th.

Blizzard will be hosting the new beta test on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms through July 19th.
