Overwatch 2 devs explain how Junker Queen differs from other Tanks

In a stream with Overwatch 2 content creators, Blizzard Entertainment developers outlined some of the key differences between Junker Queen and her tank counterparts.

Overwatch fans have long hoped that the Queen of Junkertown would make the roster as a playable heroine. Thankfully, the Blizzard crew is granting that wish for the upcoming sequel to the hero shooter.

As the franchise’s brand new tank character, the Junker Queen will undoubtedly pack some punch. A pump-action shotgun, blade, and ax are her weapons of choice.

And skills like Commanding Shout and Rampage should keep enemies at bay. But while the Junker Queen’s abilities may seem reminiscent of other tanks, it sounds like she’s bringing a unique playstyle to the table.

Overwatch 2’s Junker Queen isn’t just another tank

Junker Queen Overwatch 2 Junker Queen is all about offensive maneuvers.

Typically, Overwatch’s tanks serve as the first line of defense, absorbing enemy fire and protecting their compatriots with shields. Blizzard employees Kenny Hudson and Jacob Rodriguez found that Junker Queen plays very differently.

During a Twitch stream featuring Emongg and Flats, the Overwatch 2 developers said that Junker Queen is pure aggression, her primary defense option comes in the form of Commanding Shout. “Your gear is about getting in there, creating havoc and shaking it up. She’s kind of a tanky DPS,” revealed Rodriquez.

He added that this particular hero should prove to be a promising choice for tankers looking to ditch shield-based play.

A bit later in the stream, around 3:32:40, Emongg reflected on how Junker Queen’s pull ability differs from Roadhog’s hook.

According to Hudson, the new hero’s pull ability works like a “reverse boop,” so it’s not guaranteed that an enemy will fully face Junker Queen after it’s activated.

Rodriguez elaborated further, telling viewers that while Roadhog and Junker Queen have a lot in common on paper, “they play completely differently.” Roadhog’s hook is “almost” a guaranteed kill.

Meanwhile, Junker Queen has to “work a little harder” to get a kill with her knife draw ability due to her reverse boop-like quality.

In addition, Roadhog’s healing ability can refill his health almost completely. With the newer tank, on the other hand, healing is primarily based on “how many people you can hit and how long you can sustain your wound damage.”

So it seems that Junker Queen is going to shake up the playstyle of tank players quite a bit in Overwatch 2.
