Similar to the old League of Legends clan system or other groups in online games, Overwatch 2 will soon have its own “guild” system. Blizzard has highlighted the feature as a top priority ahead of the game’s launch, along with a tournament mode.
Overwatch 2 goes live in early October and fans are counting down the days until they get their hands on all the new content and updates.
During the development of the game, Blizzard has actively sought player feedback to incorporate new elements into the game that fans of the original will enjoy.
One big thing that players really want from Overwatch 2 is more social interaction and engagement from the game. Leaks for the game in late 2021 revealed that a clan or guild system could be a big feature of OW2 – which would be just the thing.
Fans were excited to hear about this potential inclusion, and in the recent Reddit AMA, a user asked for confirmation about this additional feature, as well as the possible inclusion of in-game tournaments – and they got some positive news.
Will there be a guild system in Overwatch 2?
Overwatch fans have been asking about clans or a similar structure for years. It seems that Blizzard has heard these requests and is considering implementing a system that will allow players to create a guild.
Blizzard explained this concept when a Reddit user asked: “Did the team work on any social systems?”
“We want to add more social systems to Overwatch 2, and a guild system is top of the list for us,” the OW2 developers responded to the above question.
They then added that much of the team is working on this development.
“A feature like this is a great opportunity and something we’re really excited about, but it’s a huge boost, not only for large parts of our team, but for several other departments at Blizzard as well. We’ve put a lot of work into this feature, but it’s too early to talk about specifics or when it might appear.”
What about tournaments in the game?
While a guild system for the Overwatch 2 team has been described as “almost at the top of the list,” in-game tournaments don’t seem quite as important. When asked about the inclusion of tournaments, the developers replied and said that it was “It’s something the team is more concerned with.”
While it may not have been one of the first features they worked on, it seems Blizzard is now starting to look into it.
However, fans are disappointed that such features are only now being explored.
With Overwatch 2 still four months to transition, Blizzard likely has more to reveal about the game before it goes live on October 4th.
