Pakistan Leads Push for Funding to Counter Damage From Climate Change

After catastrophic floods, Pakistan is leading a push with other developing countries to set up international financing for natural disasters it says are caused by climate change to advance the issue ahead of climate talks later this year.

prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, will point to record rainfall that has inundated parts of Pakistan in recent weeks in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, arguing that the countries that have contributed the least to global warming are suffering the most from the effects of climate change, say helpers. Pakistan is responsible for about 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions but estimates the floods will cost it more than $30 billion in lost economic growth and reconstruction costs.
