Pantages musicals of the 2023-24 season: “MJ”, “The Wiz”, “Company”

“MJ”, the Tony Award-winning musical featuring the hits of Michael Jackson, is among the upcoming offerings of Broadway in Hollywood, which on Wednesday announced the seven national tours that will play the Hollywood Pantages Theater in its 2023-24 season.

MJ (Dec 20 – Jan 28), set during filming of the musician’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour, opens the season, followed by a restaging of The Wiz (Feb 13 – Mar 3). 2024) . This new version of the groundbreaking Wizard of Oz-based musical will be its first major revival in 40 years, coming to Broadway following its nationwide tour.

A 25th anniversary tour of Chicago the Musical (March 5-24, 2024) will then stop at Pantages, marking the show’s first return to Los Angeles in nearly eight years. The Hollywood venue will also host “Girl From the North Country” (May 14 – June 2, 2024), set during the Great Depression and featuring the songs by Bob Dylan, and “Mrs. Doubtfire” (June 11-30, 2024), an adaptation of the popular 1993 film starring Robin Williams. The Pantages then welcome a new production of the classic adventure Peter Pan (July 30 – August 18, 2024) with an updated book by LA playwright Larissa FastHorse that revises the show’s long-criticized portrayal of Native Americans. “I’m thrilled to be a part of bringing ‘Peter Pan’ to life for a new generation,” FastHorse said in a statement. “If you used to love this musical, you will still watch the show that enchanted you while discovering a ‘Peter Pan’ that everyone can enjoy for many years to come without harm.”

The season concludes with the Broadway and West End revival of Company. overseen by Stephen Sondheim himself before his death in 2021. Originally written with a male protagonist, this version of the musical instead focuses on a woman contemplating the ins and outs of romantic relationships as she turns 35.

The announcement also noted that theatergoers purchasing a seven-performance package for the 2023-24 season which is available onlinegains priority access to previously announced Les Misérables engagement (August 1-September 10).
