Patrick Mahomes gives disappointing update on quarterback season 2

In the first season of Netflix’s newest original documentaries quarterback, NFL fans received unprecedented access to three of the biggest names in the NFL.

Over the course of the eight-episode season, viewers were able to take a behind-the-scenes look at how much work goes into being a starting quarterback in one of the biggest sports leagues in the world.

For the series’ first season, Netflix managed to assemble a diverse group of starting quarterbacks, including reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes; Marcus Mariota, first-year starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons who made his debut as a Falcon in 2022; and longtime Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The show gave fans the opportunity to follow these three quarterbacks in a new light from the first snap of Week 1 all the way to the Super Bowl. While the show showcased highlights from the game, the core of the show was to see the work that goes unnoticed in the lead up to game day. We also had the opportunity to see a more personal side of the players and gain insight into their personal lives, which allowed fans to get to know the players even better.

It was a great series and a second season is expected to release in 2024. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the stars of the first season will be returning.

Will Patrick Mahomes be there for the second quarterback season?

Although Patrick Mahomes appeared as one of the three stars in the first season of the hit Netflix series, the Chiefs’ star quarterback will not be returning quarterback Season 2. True, Mahomes will not be in the second season of the series.

It was assumed that Season 2 would introduce a new group of quarterbacks, but Netflix had never confirmed this. However, in a new one Interview with Audacy’s 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, Mahomes has revealed that he will indeed not be returning for the upcoming season of the series.

“I don’t plan on doing that next season. “I’m going to try to give other people a chance, but it’s definitely something I’m open to down the road,” Mahomes shared. “I think doing it two years in a row would not serve the purpose of the series, which is to show different perspectives. We’ll leave a few other people out there and maybe I’ll get back there later in my career.”

Obviously Mahomes doesn’t mind returning for future seasons, but he won’t be coming back for the show’s second season, which makes sense. As Mahomes emphasized in his interview, the show’s purpose is to provide fans with unique perspectives, and that requires bringing in new talent.

With Mahomes ruled out for the second season, it seems certain that Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota probably won’t be back either, as Netflix looks to sign a new trio for the series’ second season.
