She posted it with a caption that began with, “This is a recent realization – I continue to be abandoned by the people I love. I’m not writing this to play a victim. In some cases that is the situation. But it got me thinking about how one can set themselves up to perpetuate what they fear most. “

She added, “The fear of abandonment led me to instead cling to, and then dismiss, those I love: at the very first hint of distance – I made sure I closed the door first. so they can’t leave ME. And it took me fifty years to realize this. Growing old is wonderful, you can open up your heart AND your brain – if you let it. “
