Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission approves 5% toll increase for 2023

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — If you ride the Pennsylvania Turnpike, get ready to pay more next year.

On Tuesday, the Turnpike Commission approved a 5 percent toll increase for all E-ZPass and Toll by Plate customers.

The new tariffs will come into effect on January 8, 2023 at 00:01 in the entire toll motorway system

The combined toll for EZ Pass customers will increase from $1.70 to $1.80 and for Toll by Plate customers from $4.10 to $4.40.

The Commission says the increase is necessary to meet its financial commitments.

“PTC has been forced to increase toll rates annually for the foreseeable future to meet its financial obligations under Act 44 of 2007,” said Mark Compton, CEO of PTC. “It’s worth noting that despite these ongoing annual increases, our toll per mile remains below the centerline compared to rates at other U.S. toll booths.”
