Philabundance, Senator Sharif Street kick off 30 day food giveaway initiative in North Philadelphia for Ramadan

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Wednesday night is the first night of Ramadan, a holy month observed by Muslims.

Muslims who fast from morning to night throughout the month.

In conjunction with the 30 days of observance, Philabundance and Senator Sharif Street launched a food distribution initiative in North Philadelphia.

Philabundance is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger.

The initiative was the first of 30 food giveaways at locations across the city.

The aim is to feed over 6,000 people. Officials say the Driving Hunger Away While Ramadan initiative will feed at least 200 people a day in communal spaces from the start of Ramadan on March 22 through April 20.
