Philadelphia shootout leaves teen dead in city’s Kensington section; roughly 80 shots fired

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — SWAT units surrounded a garage in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood after a teenager was killed in a shooting Thursday night.

It happened around 8pm at the 3400 block of Palethorp Street in the Kensington area of ​​the city.

Police say the 17-year-old man was shot multiple times while riding a small motorcycle. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Chopper 6 was above us as SWAT teams surrounded a garage on the block.

Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace says no suspects were found inside after officers breached the property.

Around 80 shots were fired, but no other injuries were reported.

Neighbors had to be evacuated briefly as police searched for the shooter.

What led to the firefight is still unclear.
