Philly COVID protocols: School District of Philadelphia will require masks for first 10 days of new year

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Philadelphia School District has released its health and safety protocol for the new school year.

superintendent dr Tony Watlington and other county officials released details of their plan on Friday.

They say the masking will be based on COVID transmission levels in the area and that they will follow CDC guidelines.

However, due to summer gatherings, masks are required for the first 10 days of the school year beginning August 29.

The school doctor Dr. Kendra McDow also detailed another big shift in terms of COVID exposure.

“Students and staff who have been exposed to COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, are no longer required to quarantine at home unless they have COVID-like symptoms,” McDow said.
