Pilot dies after plane crashes near Blyn in Jefferson County

BLYN, Wash. – A pilot died after his plane crashed near Blyn in Jefferson County on Wednesday.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), a witness reported seeing a low-flying aircraft with a possible engine stalling around 3:10 p.m. and hearing a crash.

At that time there was heavy fog in the area. JCSO searched the area for the debris by car and drone and also asked the US Navy’s Whidbey Island Search and Rescue for help.

Search and Rescue was able to locate the aircraft, a single-engine Cirrus SR22. The pilot was found dead at the scene. It is believed that the pilot was the only passenger.

The accident is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
