Pixar has revealed the title and plot of its 27th feature film – which will follow next month’s much-awaited Toy Story spin-off, Light year – with a classic Pixar game that gives a breath of fresh air.
The movie is titled Elementand is currently certain to hit theaters on June 16, 2023. The film is directed by Peter Sohn, who was in the lead in 2015. Kind dinosaur (and before that, the short film Partly cloudy). Also on the film team was producer Denise Ream.
Element will continue the trend of Pixar asking, “What if [otherwise non-sentient item] Have feelings? “It follows in the footsteps of Toy Story series (brings love, sadness, and existential crises to the toy), Car (did the same with, as its title implies, cars), Wall E (robot) and Contradictory (self-emotions), creating completely flesh-and-blood characters of the four basic elements: earth, air, fire, and water.
It will focus primarily on the latter two, following the story of Ember and Wade – the former a distant flame and the latter an odd current – as they learn to overcome their differences and embrace their similarities. their copper.
According to the diary entry: “In a city where the inhabitants of fire, water, earth and air live together, a fiery young woman and a man who loves to go with the flow are about to discover something of the past. on the element: How much do they really have in common. ”
In a statement shared with the film’s announcement, Sohn explained that in developing the film’s story, he drew inspiration from his upbringing as a child of Korean immigrants in South Korea. New York.
“My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a busy grocery store in the Bronx,” he said. “We are among many families venturing into a new land with hopes and dreams – all of us in a large salad bowl of cultures, languages and beautiful neighborhoods. That’s what led me to Element.
“Our story is based on the classical elements – fire, water, earth and air. Some factors come together, and some don’t. What if these elements are still alive? ”
The most recent Pixar movie, Turn redhas similar origins, with director Domee Shi drawing from her experiences as a Chinese girl growing up in Toronto.
In other Pixar news, the animation giant’s employees recently claimed that Disney executives censored gay sentiment in its films. In an open letter from LGBTQIA+ animators and allies at the studio, they wrote: “We personally have witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, back from the Disney company reviews have been honed to shreds of what they once were.
“Nearly every moment of openly gay sentiment was cut at Disney’s behest, despite objections from both the creative team and executive leadership at Pixar.”
After the backlash, it was reported that a same-sex kiss in Light year, which was previously removed from the film, has been restored. That movie will hit theaters in exactly one month, marking Pixar’s return to theaters (later Turn red, Luca and soul all shipped to Disney+) on June 17.
